Monday, September 19

5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Registration Required Below

As Author Frankie Ann Marcille recounts her own journey in this poignant and beautifully-illustrated picture book, she’s cultivating empathy in young readers and building a more encouraging world for people with disabilities — and for anyone who has ever faced obstacles to realize their dreams.

Marcille, a legally blind author from New London, Connecticut, knows just how powerful words can be. Growing up, she recalls how disheartened she became when she would share her dreams with those around her only to be met with one simple word —“No.”  She remembers how frustrating it was for her, even at a young age, to have people assume her abilities based solely on her vision. Then one day, everything changed.

Join us in person to learn more about Frankie’s journey.  The author will read aloud from her book and answer any questions about the book and the creative process.  Crayons and coloring pages from the book will be provided to younger attendees.  Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

This program was originally scheduled for September 8, but was rescheduled to September 19.

Registration is required for this in-person program.  Include a cell phone number on the registration and receive one text reminder, before the program begins.

About the Author

Frankie Ann Marcille
In the fall of 1999,  as Frankie Ann prepared to start kindergarten, she met her first Teacher for the Visually Impaired. His name was Daniel Nagengast, and Frankie Ann will remember
him as one of the first people to tell her “yes.”  This incredible teacher and his belief in Frankie Ann stuck with her throughout her life, reminding her that she could do anything she set her mind to, and that’s exactly what she has done.

Frankie Ann currently resides in New York City where she works as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and Orientation and Mobility Specialist at Visions Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired. At Visions, Frankie Ann focuses on advocating for her students and clients. She works to show them ways they can be their own advocates, learn strategies for independence, and create accommodation plans that help them to succeed. She is extremely excited to now call herself an author as well.

Frankie Ann’s childhood experiences became the inspiration for her first children’s bookYes. This thirty-one-page children’s story started as a poem on Frankie Ann’s phone that she wrote as she reflected on how powerful it was for her to have people in her life that supported her to pursue her dreams despite her vision. After sharing that poem with a few others, she decided to turn it into a full children’s book.
