Poetry is an exact window for viewing the event of

Juneteenth and its significance in this present moment.

 ~Tom Kilbourn

Gather on the lawn for Mark Twain Library’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Day featuring Poetry, Justice & Jazz.

Mark the day with discussions, jazz classics and selected poetry readings. Moderated by Tom Kilbourn, Episcopal priest and retired Joel Barlow High School English teacher.

A  collection of poetry has been specially compiled for this event and participants are also encouraged to bring a poem of their own choosing. Prior to the event, it is recommended that participants read the selected poems. Click here for the event program and selected readings.

After the program, linger on the lawn to enjoy refreshments, listen to great jazz and continue the conversation at MTL.

Registration recommended, but not required. Walk-ins welcome. Provide a cell phone number on the registration form to receive a text reminder notice.  This program will take place outside under the Library’s tent, rain or shine.

This discussion is part of the Conversations Series which was created in partnership by the Redding League of Women Voters and the Mark Twain Library in an effort to offer our community the opportunity to continue the conversation on race.  Community members can exchange ideas, hear differing perspectives and talk about race.
