LOAN PERIODS (for materials from other libraries in the Bibliomation consortium)

Library materials requested from other libraries in the consortium are circulated according to the rules of the owning library. Loan periods may be different from those of the Mark Twain Library.

RENEWALS

All Mark Twain Library materials may be renewed twice, except for new DVDs, which cannot be renewed at all, and all other movies, new books and music which can be renewed once.

An item cannot be renewed if another patron has placed a request for it.

Items will auto-renew, but if the “renewal limit” has been met or if there is a hold, the system will block the renewal request.

OVERDUE FINES

In 2021 the Mark Twain Library eliminated all late and overdue fines for everyone, forever.

LOST, DAMAGED, or NEVER-RETURNED LIBRARY MATERIAL

If a library item is returned to the library in non-circulating condition, or if a patron has lost or never returned a borrowed item, the patron is responsible for paying the cost of replacement of the item as determined by the library. The patron’s borrowing privileges (at all Bibliomation libraries) are suspended until this cost is paid. We do not accept replacement items.

HOLD POLICY REGARDING NON-RESIDENTS (those who do not have a Mark Twain Library card)

Older materials:  Non-residents may place a hold on items which are not noted as NEW in our catalog.   If your library is part of the Bibliomation Consortium, you may do this online through the Bibliomation catalog. Items can be arranged to be held at the Mark Twain Library for pick up or at the non-resident’s chosen library.

New material:  Non-residents may not place holds on Mark Twain Library copies of items noted as NEW in our catalog.  MTL will not be able to informally hold new materials via phone call to allow browsing access for all to our newest materials.

New DVDs:  New feature films (3-day loan period) are holdable by Redding residents only.
