Tiny Tots Halloween Party & Parade (for ages birth-5)

The Library's youngest patrons are invited to put on their costumes (or festive clothes) and celebrate Halloween with books, music, stories and songs.  Then, we'll parade by the circulation desk and trick-or-treat for vegan, allergy-friendly lollipops and gummies, and stickers. MadScience of Fairfield County is back with Spook-tacular Science Show!

Come join us to see what’s inside our secret bubbling brew! There will be foggy dry ice and potion explosions! Some will even test an eerie bed of nails and sample the effects of our bloody formula! We’ll see flashing ghosts flying and a whooshing witch’s broom too! Who knows what else could pop up!

MTL Teen Chess Club (Grades 5-12, IN-PERSON Program)

Registration recommended; drop-ins welcome. We invite teen chess players and chess enthusiasts to participate in our newly launched Teen Chess Club. No prior chess knowledge is required; all levels of experience are welcome to participate! The library will provide chess boards and pieces for all to use. About our facilitator: Matthew Shirvell (aka Coach Matt) is an avid chess player who has been teaching chess in Connecticut for over 6 years. He has competed in USCF tournaments across the country, worked as a tournament director to run some of the largest events in the state, and has helped his students reach their goals.  Recently, in January 2023, one of his students earned sole 1st place in a USCF event with a perfect score! Registration Required Below Co-sponsored with the Redding Heritage Center Join us in-person for this interactive and comprehensive retirement planning workshop with the father/daughter team of Lou and Jessica Pelletier.  You'll come away with a new understanding of retirement planning and your questions answered. Learn the following and more:
  • how new laws, SECURE ACT 1 & 2, will impact retirement
  • details regarding Social Security selection options
  • whether to keep a 401K/403B or transfer to an IRA
  • how to take income from assets in a volatile market
  • is your life insurance plan outdated
  • what legal documents are needed in retirement, in addition to a will
Lou and Jessica Pelletier of American Senior Benefits have taught classes on Medicare and retirement planning for many years at adult education programs, libraries and hospitals. This is a hybrid program that will take place both live at the Library, and virtually over Zoom. For a full experience we recommend attending this program live at the Library.
