Registration Required It's time for Family Story Time! We'll sing, dance, and read together.  This event is designed for children birth - 5 but interested older siblings are welcome to attend. You only need to signup once for all the Family Story Time sessions. It is okay to miss sessions. Stone’s Throw: African American History Museum (Off-Site)

You don’t have to travel very far to learn and discover — this region is home to dozens of attractions offering history, arts and culture! Mark Twain Library’s Stone’s Throw series highlights the very best our area has to offer. We’ll meet up at the destinations, and participate in FREE specially arranged, small group tours. The Museum focuses on a collection of artifacts that reflect decades of turbulent times for African Americans in the United States — from slavery to the Civil Rights movement. The items on display bring visitors up close to an experience that many have only read about in history books or seen in movies.

The exhibits embrace the teachings of tolerance, diversity and unity. The Museum strives to educate people about how imagery has played a significant role in how African Americans have been perceived.

While certain artifacts and memorabilia might evoke discomfort due to their historical nature, they constitute an integral aspect of African American history that deserves acknowledgment, alongside the triumphs and achievements of African American pioneers and trailblazers.

Discover Gap Years! (Teens and Adults) Zoom Program

The gap year trend has taken off in recent years, and many students are embracing the opportunity to step off the traditional academic track and engage in experiences that increase confidence, independence, maturity and college readiness. Join Katherine Stievater, founder of Gap Year Solutions, for a presentation and Q&A about the benefits of gap year experiences, and how to plan a transformational and purposeful gap year on any budget. About our presenter: Katherine Stievater founded Gap Year Solutions to help students successfully transition to college with a customized plan that builds life skills through Real World Learning. Based in Boston, MA, Katherine has four children. Her oldest studied in Spain for his junior year of high school. She also has two sons who chose to take a Gap Year. She is an Accredited Gap Year Consultant and is a Professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association. Katherine speaks and publishes regularly about the growing Gap Year movement.
