Sponsored by the MTL Writers’ Group

Three Connecticut authors discuss their writing process and inspirations during a panel discussion designed to illuminate the challenging — and often confusing — paths toward writing and promoting a book.

Learn how to come up with an idea and where to look for inspiration. Get tips on how to organize your research and how to  promote your work. After telling us a bit about each of their books, the panelists will answer questions from the audience. This is your chance to ask experienced authors how they get the job of writing a book done!

Our Panelists:

Deborah Levisonauthor of The Crate: The Story of War, A Murder and Justice and A Nest of Snakes

Deborah is an award-winning journalist, publicist and storyteller. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Deborah credits her village Library w

ith instilling in her a passion for reading and books.  Her debut book, The Crate: A Story of War, a Murder and Justice, won seven literary awards and is a true crime story with echoes of the Holocaust. Her second book, A Nest of Snakes, is loosely based on a spate of lawsuits in which adult men accused their elite private schools of abuses that shocked the nation.

Mark Perlman, author of The Reluctant Soldier

Mark spent more than 15 years researching information for his historical novel, The Reluctant Soldier. The book is based on the life of a Black soldier who enlisted with the “Harlem Hellfighters” regiment during World War I and returned to France during the Jazz Age. Mark traveled to France multiple times to visit areas impacted by both World Wars, to help him author a book that weaves fact and fiction to create a novel of war, romance and murder.

Wendy Whitman, author of Premonition and Retribution

Wendy’s background as an executive and producer for Court TV and HLN, where for decades she covered almost every major high-profile murder case in America, gave her a unique perspective that she brings to her crime novels. In Premonition, we are introduced to the character Cary Mackin, a television journalist who harbors a lifelong fear that someday she will be murdered; and in Retribution, the harrowing story continues as a hunt for a serial killer unfolds.
