Join us for a virtual tour to learn about some incredible women who lived in the nation’s capital during the Civil War.
Our virtual guide from A Tour of Her Own will illustrate how heroines navigated this tumultuous era and how each one managed to leave an indelible mark on American history through varied roles, including as lawyer, seamstress — and even as a spy.
The Civil War rocked the foundation of American daily life and changed the sociopolitical landscape, and the nation’s capital was its epicenter. While men went off to fight, a few brave women found ways to support both their families and their country.
Stories are inspired from the lives of Elizabeth Keckley, Belva Lockwood, Dr. Mary Walker, Clara Barton and Charlotee Grimké.
