A Special Program for Mother’s Day — In Partnership with Mental Health Connecticut & Triangle Community Center
“Mom, I have something to tell you…” While many mothers have heard these words, for some, it is the start of a conversation about coming out.
How a mother handles this conversation about sexual orientation can have an impact on a person’s future mental and emotional wellbeing. That’s the message of this award-winning documentary film, Mom, I Have Something to Tell You.
Join us for a 30-minute film screening and discussion with Rick Miller, a psychotherapist and the film’s producer and director.
The film brings together years of research about how mothers have often struggled with their support of their gay sons, and many also receive no support themselves. Mothers are almost always the first — and sometimes the only — person in a family with whom a gay son can be honest about himself; but mothers can find themselves in a very lonely place, because supporting their sons often means going against the values of a family and/or a community.
This program is open to anyone who would like information and guidance about supporting a loved one through the process of sharing their sexual identity.
