Join us for an accessible, non-partisan presentation that explains the science, history and policy behind one of the world’s most consequential challenges with Dr. Rick Lawrence, a nuclear engineer and former IBM Distinguished Research staff member with expertise in machine learning, quantitative finance and data science.
Dr. Lawrence will walk us through some essential concepts — including nuclear fission, uranium enrichment and nuclear weapon design — and then expand his focus to examine the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal, the US withdrawal from the agreement in 2018 and Iran’s nuclear activities since the withdrawal.
About Our Speaker
Dr. Rick Lawrence’s career has evolved from nuclear science to machine learning to quantitative finance to COVID data science. Rick retired from IBM Research in 2016 as Distinguished Research Staff Member and Senior Manager, Machine Learning & Decision Analytics. From 2016 to 2019, he was President of PCIX, Inc, a New York City Venture-Capital-funded quant finance startup and from 2020 to 2022, he developed data science models for the Ridgefield COVID-19 Task Force. Rick received his B.S. from Stanford University in Chemical Engineering and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in Nuclear Engineering.
