TOUR DURATION: Approximately 45 minutes, plus additional time to explore the exhibitions. DESTINATION WEBSITE:  www.africanamericanmuseumct.org

The Museum focuses on a collection of artifacts that reflect decades of turbulent times for African Americans in the United States — from slavery to the Civil Rights movement. The items on display bring visitors up close to an experience that many have only read about in history books or seen in movies.

The exhibits embrace the teachings of tolerance, diversity and unity. The Museum strives to educate people about how imagery has played a significant role in how African Americans have been perceived.

While certain artifacts and memorabilia might evoke discomfort due to their historical nature, they constitute an integral aspect of African American history that deserves acknowledgment, alongside the triumphs and achievements of African American pioneers and trailblazers.
