This program is presented in partnership with the Town of Redding
It Takes a Village is designed to support new parents as they navigate every aspect of life with young children, and to help foster meaningful connections between other parents and caregivers. We believe that supporting families during this very important time is vital to the physical and mental health of both parent and child, and to the community as a whole.
Parents and "Villagers" of all ages are welcome to attend.
About the Facilitator
Jess Tyson is an entrepreneur, author, community-builder, and mother of two. She started her virtual assistant agency, Don't Panic Management, in 2011, and opened a small co-working and community space in Redding—Georgetown Collective—in 2023. After employing dozens of mothers over the years and learning firsthand the demands that motherhood puts on the bodies and minds of birthing women, she has become a fierce advocate for parental rights in the workplace and beyond. According to Tyson, American society does not value or support mothers the way it should, and the lack of support has taken a toll on the mental and physical health of women everywhere. Tyson said, the data shows that we were not built to care for young children alone and that it truly does take a village to raise a child. She is excited to lead and support this group and usher in a new wave of thoughtful, confident, and cared-for children. We can't pour from an empty cup, and while this chapter is difficult, we don't have to go through it alone!
Golf-the-Stacks Robotics Workshops (Grades 5-8) In-Person 6-Part Series: 10/6, 11/17, 12/15, 1/12, 2/9, 3/1 REGISTRATION FULL

REGISTRATION FULL. Join us at the library for a six-part, build-your-own hole for a mini golf course! Golf-the-Stacks will be a playable mini golf course right here in the library that is built, designed, coded, and created by you using microprocessors, Python or blocky code, and your imagination. If you are creative and love to build, this event is for you! All levels of coders and builders are welcome as we will be helping each other in a collaborative setting. You only need to register once to be registered for all 6 sessions. About our workshop leader: Caroline is a certified educator, mom of three, hardcore scientist, and all-around nerd. She received a BA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and an MSc (Masters of Science) from University College London. Her career has included conserving desiccated organic materials (i.e. Egyptian mummies and native American artifacts) for museums (including the British Museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Museum of New Mexico) and archaeological sites around the world. As the field of robotics has taken off, Caroline has leveraged her unique experience in art and science to develop a unique K-12 robotics program. Through MTL robotics classes, she hopes to inspire and share the possibilities of science, humanities, and technology with students in our community. Registration is limited to 10 participants. We ask that participants plan to attend all six sessions:Friday, October 6, 3:00-4:30 p.m. (scheduled for an earlier time because er9 has no school on this day)
