Department Stores — A Feminine Oasis: A Tour of Her Own (Virtual)

Department Stores — A Feminine Oasis: A Tour of Her Own (Virtual)

Thursday, May 16

6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Registration Required Below At one time, department stores were places that women could find a modicum of freedom from a male-dominated world. This nexus of class and commerce allowed women to casually socialize and escape their regimented existences. More importantly, it allowed women to exercise the power of economics, an ability that was often denied to them. A virtual tour guide from A Tour of Her Own will explore DC streets, strewn with the ghosts of iconic department stores and discuss how a simple shopping excursion was, in fact, so much more to so many women of bygone eras. Register below to receive a Zoom link the day of the program. Include a cell for a text reminder. About Our Presenter A Tour of Her Own was founded in 2018 as the first tourism company in Washington, DC to focus exclusively on women's history. The company offers in-person women's history tours, book talks and virtual experiences. The mission of TOHO is to integrate the challenges and contributions of women into our traditional narratives through storytelling in a way that is approachable, relatable and transformative. A Tour of Her Own hosts programs that nurture the exchange of ideas, traditions and experience as a way to foster connections.
