Redding Reelers Fall 2022 Series
Marvelous Mavericks: Pluck, Persistence and Privies

Love learning? Love documentaries? Then join Redding Reelers — the Library’s discussion group focusing on thought-provoking films!

This fall, Redding Reelers presents Marvelous Mavericks: Pluck, Persistence and Privies, a selection of three documentaries about some amazing (and somewhat quirky) individuals who push envelopes, reach for the stars, and in one case: flush away some preconceived notions about how societies should deal with waste.

Members are invited to watch the documentaries at home, before the group meets, and then join a virtual discussion on the selected film of the month. Films are free on Hoopla and may be available for free or for a small fee on other platforms.

For the Left Hand

At age 10, aspiring pianist Norman Malone is paralyzed on his right side after being attacked by his father. Over the next several decades he masters the left-hand repertoire in secret, before a chance discovery of his talent leads him to a concert debut. Aged 78, he will perform the greatest work in the canon: Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand.
